DIY DOG BED FROM A RECYCLED TIRE!

DIY DOG BED FROM A RECYCLED TIRE!

Our dogs are loving and loyal animals that deserve their own space and every bit of comfort that we can give them. Do you know that you can recycle an old tire that you no longer use by turning it into a comfortable bed for your pet? If you are the type that enjoys trying out new things, why not make a DIY dog bed from a recycled tire? This way, your pet will get to have his own bed and you will save money.

It is very easy to make one of these and your pooch can use them both indoors and outdoors as they are easy to move around. Since they are inexpensive to make, if you've got more than one tire, you can even make two beds for your pet, one for outside and the other for inside. If you’ve got more than one dog, you can also make two different beds for the two animals. We’ll show you how to make a DIY dog bed from a recycled tire in a few simple steps.

Materials you need to carry out this task include:

  • Tire
  • Paint
  • Stiff brush
  • Cushion or foam
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape.
  • Soap
  • Water

Preparing the tire

The tire will be the base of the bed that you’re making and so you should start with getting it ready. You can do so using the following steps:

  • To begin, you'll need to wash or clean it thoroughly, especially if you've abandoned it for a while and it has gathered dust and grime. It is necessary to do this, otherwise, the paint won't stay on it because paint cannot stick to dirt. You can use a hose to wash the tire down, after which you should use a stiff brush to thoroughly clean it.
  • Next, leave the tire outside, preferably under the sun, to dry completely.
  • Once it is totally dry, it is time to paint it. Spray paint will do just fine. Before starting, it is always a good idea for you to place some furniture sliders under the tire to save your floor from being stained and to protect the paint job that you're doing.
  • Take the spray paint and paint the entire tire, or some parts of it, depending on whatever design picks your fancy. Some people even go the extra mile, by creating cute designs like bones or paws, etc., with a paint color that contrasts the main color they used. Other fun ideas are to personalize the tire for your pet with its name or draw a heart sign or any other thing you wish to draw.
  • Once you are satisfied with the painting that you have done, leave the tire to dry completely.  This would take several hours, so be patient for it to dry so you do not mess up your work.
  • Making the bed

Once the tire is dry, it is time to make the bed for your pet. Follow the steps below to make the pet bed.

    • Using the measuring tape, measure the diameter of the inside of the tire. This is necessary for you to know the size of foam or cushion that you are going to use for the bed.
    • Trace the same measurement on the cushion or foam and cut it out.
    • Place the cut foam into the tire and cover it up with some fabric. You can use old fabric, or if you prefer, you can get some new fabric to use for the bed.

If you'd rather not paint, you can still make your pet bed look beautiful and comfortable for the animal. All you have to do is clean up the tire and place the cut-up cushion in it. After that, use some colorful fabric, such as old clothes or bed sheets that you are no longer using, to cover it up.

    Conclusion

Dogs are friendly and love to be around their humans a lot, but they will always need their own space at some point. You can create a space that your pet will love using an old tire. Making a DIY dog bed from a recycled tire is inexpensive and easy, and so, it will save you the cost of having to get a new bed for your pet. Dogs love these recycled beds a lot and we are sure that your pooch is no exception.

If you've got more than one pet, you can make these beds for them using different designs. All you have to do is make them comfortable using cushions and old sheets, and your pet is going to love his new bed a lot.
